[IMEMO] Russian-South Korean Roundtable on the topic: “Foreign Policy of the Trump Administration and Its Significance for the Korean Peninsula”

On April 14, 2025, Russian-South Korean Roundtable on the topic: “Foreign Policy of the Trump Administration and Its Significance for the Korean Peninsula” was held at IMEMO. The event was organized by the Center for Asia Pacific Studies.

 

From the Russian side, the Roundtable was attended by:

 

Victoria Zhuravleva, Deputy Director for Scientific Work, Head of the Center for North American Studies, Cand. of Science (Politics), report “Foreign Policy of the Trump Administration”;

Anna Chetverikova, Head of the Center for European Studies, Cand. of Science (Economics), report “Probable Prospects for Russian-European Relations”;

Alexander Fedorovsky, Head of the Group of the Asia-Pacific Region Problems, Dr. of Science (Economics), report “Russian-Korean Relations in the Context of the Growing Influence of Regional Institutions”;

Oleg Davydov, Senior Researcher of the Group of the Asia-Pacific Region Problems, report “The Problem of Korean Settlement: a View from Moscow”;

KO Jae-Nam, Senior Advisor, Korea Institute for Eurasian Policy, report “Challenges to Korean-Russian Cooperation in the Era of Changing World Order”;

CHANG Duck Joon, Professor Emeritus, Kunming University, “Multipolarity of the International Order and the Role of the Middle Power: the Case of the Republic of Korea”;

LEE Sang Joon, Professor, Kunming University, “Changing Spheres of Russia’s Foreign Economic Cooperation and Implications for Korea”;

KIM Seun Rae, Professor, Hankuk University, report “Trump 2.0: North Korea's Nuclear Problems and Security on the Korean Peninsula”.

The event discussed the impact of US foreign policy under Donald Trump on the foreign policy of the Republic of Korea, relations in the Russia-PRC-DPRK triangle, as well as the prospects for restoring Russian-South Korean trade and economic relations.
